Having undertaken roles involving material buying, scheduling, technical review and building system development, Simon ensures Ideality benefits from both the practical elements of construction and the theoretical knowledge gained through research and development. These are coupled with a solid understanding of up to date regulatory requirements. Specific areas of experience include:

Client Design Advisor

Utilising our technical knowledge including Building Regulations and a plethora of other technical guidance we can guide you through design issues from practical solutions to legal compliance.

Energy Champion

Utilising software tools and a combined knowledge of building methods, costs and products we have guided clients through detailed project specification via interactive energy workshops leading to final energy calculations (see SAP below).

Renewables Champion

With a great knowledge of renewable solutions we have assessed and guided projects through the selection and implementation of appropriate low carbon renewables from a single house to a centralised biomass district heating scheme.

With more than 20 years of construction related experience obtained from leading UK public and private companies, Simon has achieved many professional qualifications to reinforce his practical experience. Ideality boasts the following accreditations and certifications:

Passive House Consultant

“A Passive House is a building, for which thermal comfort can be achieved solely by post-heating or post-cooling of the fresh air mass which is required to achieve sufficient indoor air quality conditions – without the need for additional recirculation of air.” Dr. Wolfgang Feist

Ideality is a certified Passive House Consultant.

SAP and EPC - Off plan assessor

Approved Document Part L and Section 6 of the Scottish Building Standards require an SAP calculation to be carried out to demonstrate compliance with energy performance requirements.

SAP calculations are also required to demonstrate energy performance in the Sustainability benchmarks such as the Code for Sustainable Homes and in some planning conditions. We are fully qualified off-plan SAP Assessors via NHER.

The Code for Sustainable Homes

The Code for Sustainable Homes (the Code) is an environmental assessment method for rating and certifying the performance of new homes. It is a national standard for use in the design and construction of new homes with a view to encouraging continuous improvement in sustainable home building. We are a qualified assessor with BRE.

Home Quality Mark

The Home Quality Mark (HQM) has been created to serve the UK’s house builders and the householders who buy and rent new homes.

HQM will help house builders to demonstrate the high quality of their homes and to differentiate them in the marketplace. At the same time, it will give householders the confidence that the new homes they are choosing to buy or rent are well designed and built, and cost effective to run. We have attended Assessor training in August 2015 and upon launch of the scheme we will be fully qualified.

Party Wall Surveyor

The Party Wall etc. Act 1996 provides a framework for preventing and resolving disputes in relation to party walls, boundary walls and excavations near neighbouring buildings. A building owner proposing to start work covered by the Act must give adjoining owners notice of their intentions in the way set down in the Act. We are a fully qualified Party Wall surveyor.
